What We Do
-
Anxiety
Do you find yourself worrying uncontrollably, fearing the worst outcome, feeling uneasy, difficulty sleeping, feeling nervousness? You may be experiencing anxiety. If you have experienced a panic attack, you are most likely fearing that you may experience one again and have little control to manage it. We can work together to find the best tools to reduce your anxiety and impairments so that you can begin to live a healthy and happy life.
-
Stress
Taking steps to manage stress has many benefits. The actions you take will help you feel less stressed right away and more in control of your life, giving you a greater sense of well-being. It’s no secret that stress left unmanaged can take quite a toll on your physical health, mental health, and even your relationships. Our goal is to help you identify your priorities and establish boundaries. Finding a healthy balance will give you the control that you need to enjoy all aspects of your life.
-
Depression
When you are having a persistent feeling of sadness and loss of interest, it effects your thoughts, behavior, feelings, and sense of well-being. Almost everyone has dark thoughts when his or her mood is bad. With depression, the thoughts can be extremely negative. They can also take over and distort your view of reality. Cognitive therapy can be effective in changing negative thoughts and replacing them with healthy and realistic thoughts.
-
Trauma/PTSD
Trauma and abuse can be identified differently for each individual based on their own experience and how it left them feeling. Talking through your experience and finding healthy ways to cope without feeling blamed or shamed is part of the healing process.
In children, trauma can be something as small as a new home or as great as a loss of a pet. Children don’t have the communication skills to express their emotions and can internalize these feelings that will manifest in different parts of their lives. -
Grief/Loss
Every individual has experienced a form of loss at some point in their lives. A loss can be described in various ways such as loss of a job, a pet, an identity or a loved one. When grieving it is helpful to be mindful of the 5 stages of grief: denial, anger, bargaining, depression and acceptance. Finding healthy and effective coping skills can be helpful while experiencing these stages.
Our Approach
-
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
This approach is short-term, goal-oriented psychotherapy treatment that takes a hands-on, practical approach to problem-solving. Its goal is to change patterns of thinking or behavior that are behind people’s difficulties, and so change the way they feel. This approach can help clients understand the thoughts and feelings that influence behaviors and how they are connected to each other.
-
Family/Marital
A family’s patterns of behavior influence the individual and therefore may need to be a part of the treatment plan. In marriage and family therapy, the unit of treatment isn’t just the person – even if only a single person is interviewed – it is the set of relationships in which the person is imbedded
-
Play Therapy
Interactive and observational tool through play that discovers, explores and initiates child’s inner thoughts and feelings.
Most children don’t understand their feelings and how to express them appropriately. We work with the child using play to build trust and rapport that becomes an essential part of therapy. This allows the child to feel comfortable to continue using play to express their inner thoughts and feelings comfortably and practice the tools and interventions that are modeled. -
Culturally Sensitive
Culturally sensitive therapy begins with an assessment of the culture that the client identifies with. It is essential to address and explore the values and beliefs that we use to create our everyday thoughts. Experiences of symptoms are manifested differently in different cultures.
In order to treat our client’s in a way that best suits their needs, we have to be aware of our own beliefs about other cultures, and assumptions made. In addition, we have to ask questions to collect more information that can verify our assumptions or replace them with what is true for the person we are working with. -
Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF CBT)
Using evidenced based practice to gradually expose clients to one’s abuse/trauma through their narrative by utilizing cognitive behavioral techniques.
We take COVID-19 and your well-being seriously and, therefore, are able to meet via secure & private video sessions. Schedule an appointement now!
